Following the introduction of its D5 FX-format DSLR camera last month, Nikon Hong Kong successfully held a launch event for its DX-format flagship camera D500 on 22 April 2016. The DX-format camera, which inherits the incredible performance of the D5, attracted a large group of media. Nikon also announced its latest SnapBridge application at the launch event. Booths were set up where members of the media could enjoy hands-on experience of the speed and convenience of the new image transfer function. The response to SnapBridge was very positive and encouraging.
Held in a stylish, recently renovated café, the launch event offered a refreshing break from the usual media gathering. Supported by a huge TV screen on which important, eye-catching information was projected, Mr. Calvin Lai, HKTO Manager, HK Sales & Marketing Division delivered an informative presentation on how the new D500 packs the incredible performance of the D5, Nikon's flagship FX-format model into an agile body. He also highlighted how the D500 combines the agility of the DX system with superior usability to take the performance of DX-format cameras to a higher level.
As a flagship camera in DX-format, the D500 incorporates the same powerful 153-point AF system as the D5, ensuring precise subject acquisition even during high-speed continuous shooting at approx. 10 fps. It supports 4K UHD movies, meeting the demands of multimedia professionals, while the new EXPEED 5 image-processing engine enables it to deliver high-quality images and movies and realizes a wide sensitivity range from ISO 100 to 51200, Lo 1 (ISO 50 equivalent) and expandable to Hi 5 (ISO 1640000 equivalent).
The D500 also perfectly integrates agility with usability to provide an angle of view equivalent to that of a lens with an approx. 1.5x longer focal length*1. This permits telephoto shooting using smaller, lighter lenses with a shorter focal length, while taking advantage of performance that rivals the D5 FX-format flagship model. The D500 also employs a touch-screen, tilting monitor to increase its usability.
Apart from inheriting various superior functions of the Nikon D5 FX-format DSLR camera, the D500 is the first camera to support the SnapBridge application. The D500 can be constantly connected to a smart device*2 with the SnapBridge application installed (available as a free download), via Bluetooth Low Energy technology. This automatically transfers images taken with the D500 to your smart device, as well as embed images with location and date time information. By Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G technology, SnapBridge uploads the photos automatically to NIKON IMAGE SPACE and you can also use the smart device to browse images stored in the camera, as well as SnapBridge dramatically enhances the value and convenience of images taken with the D500.
